Solid budget laptop, lacking speed This laptop won’t win any awards for speed, but it is a solid budget laptop. Good for email, Facebook, Skype, word processing, and general Internet use, it’s really ‘just the basics’ in my book. It can be upgraded a small bit, however I think you could spend a bit more and probably get what this one lacks and be happier in the long run, even if your needs are ‘basic’.Below are the specs taken from the HP site, and my perceived pros and cons of this laptop, to help you make a purchase that’s right for you.I own and have used over the years multiple laptops and PCs of various configurations, and know certain things to be true. First, processor speed isn’t the only thing to consider when looking for ‘fast’. You need a cache of 3MB or better, a 7200RPM hard drive is faster than a 5400RPM (so look for it), and ideally the most memory you can get (4GB is standard for Windows 8). Second, you can add things like memory and a if the laptop doesn’t have it, but you have to have room to do so. When a PC only has 3 USB ports, it’s a good idea to add a , but that does limit your laptop’s portability somewhat. Third, brand matters, especially in budget PCs. I won’t buy Acer, Asus, and Toshiba ‘budget’ PCs due to bad experiences with all of them, but don’t mind a cheap HP due to continued good experiences. The HP 2000 line of laptops is a good one. I own two of them currently and find them to be solidly made, good looking PCs. I wouldn’t hesitate to pick one up at the right price, but the right price for me would include taking into consideration if I added things I want to it. The question then becomes: “Would I still be at the ‘right price’ on this laptop?”As I see it for this laptop these are the Pros, Cons and Neutral issues to consider prior to purchasing.Someone looking for a solid every day laptop for basic uses like emailing, chatting on Skype, surfing the web and watching the occasional movie, will probably like this PC. On the other hand, someone looking for a gaming or entertainment PC, would find this laptop lacking, with little room to grow. However, I do think the HP laptops are some of the best built ones out there at this price point, and if you are on a budget and can add things like Bluetooth and max out the memory over time, this is a solid choice.PROS:+ Good HP build quality, offering durability for every day use.+ HDMI port; not all budget priced PCs have them.+ Multimedia card+ Memory can be upgraded to 8GB.+ DVD Burner drive+ VGA port+ Integrated HD webcam+ 3 – USB 2.0 ports+ Full-Size Keyboard+ Wireless and wired Internet connectivity.+ Touchpad supports multi-touch gestures with on/off button.CONS:- NO Bluetooth- NO touchscreen.- NO USB 3.0 ports- Older, slower processor- Only 1MB cache.- Only 1 memory slot (dimm), which means if you want to upgrade, you have to buy (1) 8GB dimm versus adding to the existing 4GB, which is then left unusable.- 320GB 5400RPM hard drive; smaller than other budget PCs at the same price point and the slower 5400RPM speed.NEUTRALS:Integrated sound and video for this PC are standard for this price point; offering average performance. Windows 8 operating system is the new standard, but built for touchscreens and hard for many to learn to use.SPECS PER HP:Product Name 2000-2d64NRProduct Number F4X74UAMicroprocessor 1.48GHz AMD E1-1500 Accelerated ProcessorMicroprocessor Cache 1MB L2 CacheMemory 4GB DDR3 SDRAM (1 DIMM)Memory Max Maximum supported = 8GBMemory Slots 2 user accessibleVideo Graphics AMD Radeon HD 7310 Discrete-Class graphicsDisplay 15.6-inch diagonal HD BrightView LED-backlit display (1366×768)Hard Drive 320GB 5400RPM hard driveMultimedia Drive SuperMulti DVD burnerNetwork Card 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector)Wireless Connectivity 1×1 802.11b/g/n WLANSound Altec Lansing dual speakersKeyboard Full-size keyboardPointing Device Touchpad supporting multi-touch gestures with on/off buttonExternal Ports Multi-format digital media card reader for Secure Digital cards3 Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.01 HDMI1 VGA (15-pin)1 Headphone-out1 Microphone-inDimensions 1.20 in (min H)/ 1.41 in (max H) x 14.80 in (W) x 9.72 in (D)Weight 5.39 lbPower 65W AC adapter…

Good deal if you dont need anything fancy right price, affordable for homework and facebook. We bought one and it is exactly what we were looking for and it didn’t cost very much. We’ve been happy with it so far.

Slow, but possibly a better option than a Chromebook HP products are normally great – I love my all-in-one HP Omni with i3 processor, but the AMD E series processor is just too slow to do anything but the most basic web surfing. If that’s all you need (reading email, typing up an occasional Word or Google document, etc.) then this is a cheap, decent option, plus you you can run standard Windows applications unlike a Chromebook or other low cost laptops.
