Good computer for a good price. This compact computer is powerful and is more than enough for any everyday task you could perform including photo and video editing. It is convenient to place on top of a desk. It comes with Windows 8 for which I had low expectations; but surprisingly I enjoyed it. It is similar in the desktop functionality to Windows 7 but it builds on it by giving the option to switch to metro browsing which is a simple way to open up apps. The startup time is super fast. This computer is a really good deal for the solid hardware you get.
AMAZING Value Desktop UPDATE July 1 2013- after much time I have discovered as expected that MAJOR games, the newest, will NOT play. Call of duty black ops II will load and begin to play but eventually locks up. NOT a surprise and I don’t hold it against this wonderful little desktop for a second. Just want to clarify its capabilities a bit. I DO play trouble free games like Civilazation Gods and Kings and at nice medium settings with NO lag and speedy loads. This is playable with better graphics and settings than my 4 year old desktop gaming computer with 8 Meg’s of ram that this replaces. This computer WILL surprise you at how much it can do, but it will not replace a high dollar computer and was not ever designed to. It is however, the very best value in a computer that I ever have come across in my 64 years.——————————————————————————————————————————————————–Well this makes 4 brand new computers for me this year already. My aging gaming desktop had slowly become about equal to an old memory, with little to offer in everyday computing. Not to mention that as far as gaming went, it no longer DID….Having a new gaming laptop, an everyday mainstream laptop (the Samsung Series 3 NP350V5C-T01US 15.6-Inch Laptop), a new iPad 4, all I needed to be complete was a new desktop. I didn’t want to spend much since I will barely use this. But when I did, I wanted it to NOT take a week to load a video on YouTube of choke playing one of the HD Videos I make using my camcorder or camera. I almost bought the little sister to this by Acer but for less than a hundred bucks, this added the much better 3rd Generation Intel Core i3-3220 Processor (3.3GHz), doubled the hard drive to a full 1 GIG, and upped the 4 GB DDR3 to 6 GB DDR3 of RAM. I felt it would be a false economy to skimp and get so much less to save about 80 bucks. I also consider the 3rd Generation Intel Core i3-3220 Processor to be the bare bones MINIMUM for a processor and the cheaper sister to this by Acer didn’t even have that inside. Now when this arrived, to my horror it was boxed along with a new Asus VS247H-P 24-Inch Full-HD LED-Lit Monitor I ordered with it. Both inside a quite larger box with NO insulation to prevent the items from banging around badly. I fully expected neither to work after hearing them slam down on the concrete when the JERK UPS driver arrived after 7 PM…….But unboxed and connected, all was well. Monitor had a stuck pixel but that is another review. I noticed right away that my internet connection was very weak, and sort of slow, around just 14 MBPS upload and just 2.9 upload. Of course this would turn out to be a stunning operator error on MY part. Being in such a hurry, I opened it, set it up & went to work getting the thousand or so W8 updates. Heaven forbid I even LOOK at all the paperwork, cables etc that my wife had set out for me. Noticed all this the next day only to see 2 little antennas. Yep, this has built in wireless and even WITHOUT the 2 external antennas, the wireless worked just fine. Just a bit slow. Like me….So pop those suckers on and now instead of just 2 or 3 bars of signal strength, I have a full 5 and my speed test jumped to a 30.12 MBPS download and 5.30 upload speed. I was kind of upset before I figured this out since this desktop sits just about 6 feet from the router. I am still sort of reeling from the performance of this tiny desktop. I am so used to and spoiled by my i7 processors with 16 megs of RAM I just assumed this would only do as intended, store photos, do email and casual web browsing. I am a bit freaked out to see it play my Call of Duty Black Ops II and actually PLAY it. I never dreamed I could get so much for so little. Paired with this 24″ monitor that is SO cheap, well, I feel like I won the lotto. Keyboard feels cheap and I HATE the layout with the delete button buried in the middle of the keyboard in an unusual spot. Easy to change and I may find a couple spares in my garage. The mouse is something I am not even going to try out, I have a bunch I KNOW I like and am comfortable with. I love that the tiny size of this (the height of any common magazine) lets me put it on my portable desktop, along with my gaming laptop, my Photosonix Nova Pro Light & Sound Machine Sensory with Colortrack Glasses, gaming controller and gadgets. All in one tiny, compact spot. I can’t say enough about how much this computer has surprised me. I give it an unusual (for me) full 5 stars. As anything changes, I will update and change my rating as warranted. My experience in the past with Acer has been extremely positive. I am a…
