great value especially for the price! I own two tabs, both higher end brands. This value-priced tab performs similarly in most areas to my Lenovo, and better in some. The Fire is still the reigning champ for resolution, sound and ease of use I like them both but this keeps up with them, sometimes performing better.First, it’s nice to look at. I’m a big fan of plastic, and this is all that. Parts fit sung and tight, no rough edges. It feels well-built and is extremely lightweight. The back is textured with a pleasing subtle pattern and looks nice. It’s a bit slippery though, so I place it to avoid a slip or slide which it’s eager to do. A cover may help. The design is pleasing and functional and all controls and access ports are where I like them. The power and volume buttons are actually a little TOO easy to push, and would benefit from a slight recess like my Lenovo and Fire have. A rubberized back would be nice, but that would affect the pleasing price. The first thing you notice is that the screen is bright and vivid, and plenty HD for me. I don’t notice any viewing angle issues different from any other devices I have. It may not be a retina display, but it’s close enough to be pleasing in every way for me. I enjoy reading my books on it, and it’s a willing partner. The light weight really helps here. The touchscreen requires a certain touch but I’ve learned what it likes. On the plus side, accidental presses happen less frequently than with similar screens. The Quad-Core processor is fast and capable, especially for this price point. I’m happy with it and notice no appreciable lag unless I am running another app simultaneously, where a little would be expected. No issues here, only positive.Storage is plentiful. 16 GB plus 1GB ram is quite nice for this price, and almost all of it is available. Even with my personalized apps added I still have over 12GB of internal storage left. I added a 32GB SD card (not included) for my music and downloads which is plenty of room, and it all works seamlessly.Apps included are useful, didn’t remove any. No bloatware really. Between the Play store and Amazon Apps, I have all I need. You can write or change some apps to the SD card if you prefer, although there is plenty of built-in internal memory.I read a periodical known for its picture art and the colors are bright, vivid, and balanced. I see no viewing issues at all. The screen is easily readable from any normal reading angle.Sound is not very good. Weak, anemic volume plus a speaker that probably dates back to my first flipphone. Pretty bad years ago, let alone now. Headphones are not much better, as the quality of sound is just…..not good. Flat, no appreciable bass. While it’s not great for music as-is, I loaded a power amp app I purchased years ago and that greatly improves the quality of music already in my SD card library. Unfortunately, it doesn’t help streaming sound which is most of what I listen to. Ehhh….it’s just ok, but don’t buy it for sound.Bluetooth works great and is welcome at this price, but does not significantly improve the sound quality or volume sent to the Bluetooth device. What would help is a better sound chip or a music app, which is what I did. Since this app go-round worked fairly well, I assume the manufacturer could tweak the software too. Although I’ve not tried this yet, others mention that VOIP calls work well with certain apps.Cameras also are forgettable. Your friend will probably recognize you on Skype, but will likely be more from hearing your voice than making out facial details. The front camera is actually better than the back which is surprising. The back camera has a flash, but it’s too weak to do any good at all in a dark room. Outdoors is better, but keep your pocket cam handy.WiFi is the strong suit here, and why I was hoping it would work for me. It receives and transmits from a poor reception area in my home when none of the others will, and for this alone it’s worth it to me, so it’s a keeper just for that. It’s very strong, and no drop issues like with my Lenovo, and the Fire just doesn’t reach well there either. The GPS does not require a data connection with the HERE app by Nokia that I downloaded, and works flawlessly for typical driving directions. If you do happen to have a mobile hotspot or a phone tethered, you can also enjoy the Live Traffic feature this app includes.HDMI works well, as does Cast feature. It charges with the micro-usb common now to all of us, and comes with the charger and a micro to standard USB cord separate from the charger cord.Battery life is fine, a little better than I expected actually. It also charges back up very quickly. About four or five hours video and mixed, and about seven to eight with light to moderate. The standby life is quite good. The screen scratches very easily. It seems to be plastic. Use…
Dragon Touch: “M8″ 8” Tablet: A Comprehensive Critical Review., It’s been three years since I’ve written a review on a tablet despite having bought two Samsung tablets last year (2014): a Galaxy Note 10.1 and Note Pro 12.2.But, I also rejected an offer to review a tablet from Cody because of a legacy of quality-control issues that I’ve experience with their products.***This is my first time dealing with any product from Dragon Touch and I must admit before being contacted by them, I never heard of them. They read one of my reviews of a middle ground tablet from a private company.Their “M8″ with its spec’s and by its performance is really a good option if you’re not concerned with the high-end processors and/or owning a status symbol from a reputable company.Although this computer is not from a name-brand company, this is a quality budget tablet that works very well and is extremely affordable.Well, what do you get for $100?+ Dragon Touch M8 tablet+ 16 GB Flash HDD/ Internal storage+ Micro USB charging cable+ USB to AC cable+ Warranty and Quick Start GuideThe spec’s are:* Price: $99* Quad-core 1.3GHz* 8” 1280 x 800 pixel screen* IPS/ 5-Point Touch Screen* Android 4.4* 1 GB of RAM* 16 GB of Internal storage* Front and Back camera* Wi-Fi 802.11n* Plastic body* Free keyboard, flip-covered case* 1- Micro USB port* 1- HDMI port* 1- SD/ TF card slot (for extra storage)* Headphone jack* Microphone***These spec’s are not the most recent but for a mid/ budget-price tablet it is most certainly good enough to do most things that you’d do with a Samsung, Kindle Fire or a Google Nexus.*** Comparing to higher-end brands ***NEXUS “9”* 8.9″ IPS Screen/ QXGA (2048 x 1536)* 64-bit NVidia Tegra K1 2.3GHz (CPU)* 192-core Kepler (GPU)* 16 (or 32 GB) Internal storage* Android 5.0* Choice of 4 different colors (back covers)* Wi-Fi or LTE models* 1.6MP front facing camera* 8.0 MP rear camera w/ auto focus* 1- USB 2.0 port* 3.5mm audio jack* Dual front-facing speakers* Dual microphones* Bluetooth 4.1* NFC (Broadcom controller)* 6600 mAh non-removable battery* $346KINDLE FIRE “HDX–8.9″* 8.9” 2560 x 1600* Wi-Fi or LTE (or combo)* 2.5 GHz, Quad-core Snapdragon 8084* Adreno 420 (GPU) w/ 2 GB of RAM* 16 GB (or 32 or 64 GB’s) of internal storage* Micro USB 2.0* 3.5mm stereo headphone jack* Ambient light sensor* 720p HD 8MP rear-facing camera w/ electronic image stabilization* Dual microphone* 20+ File formats* Dual integrated speakers–Dolby Atmos.* $394SAMSUNG “Galaxy Note 10.1″ (2014)* 10.1”, 2560 x 1600* Dolby Virtual 5.1 Surround sound* 8 MP Rear camera* 2 MP Front camera* 16:10 video ratio aspect* 1.9 GHz & 1.3 GHz Quad-core* Android 4.3* S-Pen* Wacom intergrated IT touch & pen screen* Shoots video in full 1080p HD/ LED flash* 3 GB RAM* 8220 mAH internal battery* $600 of free content* $480*** IPS ***One of the better features of the Dragon Touch “M8” is that it has an IPS screen. ONLY the better tablets have a screen that have IPS.IPS, or “Inplane Switching” is noted because it gives the viewer that ability to see images at 178-degrees.IPS is also notable because of its vibrant, color accuracy- reproduction.IPS also displays little to no ghosting although slower in response time to traditional Twisted Nematic (“TN”) screens.Generally speaking, an IPS screen (which are also on iPads) have a rich, rich display and looks great when gaming or watch HD movies. In the companion video, this is abundantly clear.*** Keyboard- Case ***The full size keyboard and case comes as an added bonus with purchase. (*But, I’m told by the company that this is just a limited-quantity promotion.)Just this set itself will run you about $15- $20 here on Amazon and it connects by the USB cord. The holder itself is large enough so that if the tablet falls the edge of the case will protect it because there’s roughly a quarter of an inch circumference around the tablet. This keyboard case also has a pop out kickstand for watching videos. This is a nice touch and makes this an exceptional buy.*** Sound ***The only area that needs improvement is the speaker on this device. It’s adequate but not spectacular. But, on the other hand, one can always buy a decent mini bluetooth speaker for less than $40.Considering that this set is only…
This is a great tablet! 0
