by Brian Engle

Death Note is an anime series about a teenage boy who discovers an other-worldly notebook with special abilities. Whenever someone writes a name in the notebook, the named person will die. The main character, Light Yagami, attempts to use this notebook (known as a Death Note) to create a new world where only kind and loving people exist.

The idea of killing the criminals of this world seems enticing, and perhaps it would be good. However, Light’s execution of his plan turns dark almost immediately. While he kills mostly criminals, he also destroys anybody who stands in his way, including kind-hearted police officers.
