Solar Power Electricity The Pros and Cons
Solar power electricity as an alternative to fossil fuels and nuclear power makes perfect sense given oil shortages and environmental concerns. Solar power electricity is one of four renewable and clean resources for alternative energy.
Coal petroleum-based fuel and nuclear energy are not renewable and each of them contributes to pollution. Coal and gas energy production are putting enormous amounts of carbon into our atmosphere. These pollutants are the main cause of global warming. Neither of these fuels is renewable. Petroleum is fast running out. Nuclear power plants produce radioactive waste which is then stored in our earth. Considering these factors, solar power advantages are obvious.
As far as renewable alternative energies go, hydrogen is up and coming. We have been using water as a means of producing electricity for a long time, but it hasn’t been done on a widespread scale due to the enormous cost of production. Geothermal energy, which has been around for hundreds of years, is becoming more and more popular. Wind energy is another alternative.
Reduction of Draw on Electrical Plants…When homes and businesses use solar panels to produce electricity, unused power from utility companies goes back into the grid. This makes more electricity available for consumption by others.
Solar power electricity has the chance of becoming a major source of our earth’s energy. The advantages of solar power are that it does not run out and it is pure. There are absolutely no pollutants made in the production of solar energy. Countries all over the world have begun to incorporate solar power electricity. Germany leads the way in promoting the use of solar panels to gather the sun’s energy and produce electricity. In India, they are working on a solar energy plant that is claimed to be the biggest in the world. In the U.S., alternative solar power is being researched to find ways of storing solar energy and scientists are looking for methods of building solar panels without the high cost. Homeowners are being offered tax breaks for the installation of solar panels on the homes to offset the tremendous cost of the installation.
The two biggest disadvantages to solar power electricity are the high cost of the panels and the inability to store enough solar energy to power anything bigger than outside lights when the sun goes down. Solar panels also require that the sun shines directly on the them in order to use the sun’s rays. For areas that have little sun throughout the year, alternative solar power does not look like much of an alternative at all.
Even with the restriction of needing full sun to produce solar power electricity, reducing the cost of solar panels is worth it to make this source of energy available to everyone on the planet. We humans are notorious for achieving our goals when we make ideas top priorities. With innovation and determination, the production and use of solar power electricity will be worth the work we put into it
