HDTV

by Jimmy Johnson

I bought a new TV back in July because I love sport generally and the Olympics in particular. Now I knew I wanted something big screen so as to really enhance my Beijing experience but the choice to go just that bit further with HD was the best decision of all.

HD stands for high definition and you know what TV stands for, right? The difference between HDTV and regular TV is clear to see, literally. HD sends out its’ images in a much higher resolution. It is a visual experience closer to cinema than to TV. The HDTV screen is and oblong in the ration of sixteen to nine (16 units wide by 9 units tall). The resolution is a sexy 1920 by 1080 just like the cinema. The TV companies broadcast in high definition while regular TV act like a screen between the viewer and the signal. Not so with HD.

If you are watching your favorite sporting event, don’t you want to feel like you are in the stadium with the crowd? HDTV can give you that feeling, and the bigger your television set is, the more you will feel like you are there. The beauty of an HDTV set is that you will no longer have those pesky black bars that you normally see on a wide screen movie. How great would that be?

The improved color reception on HDTV sets really brings programs to life. This is due to increased bandwidth and means that the detail you get will be 2 to 5 times greater than your old non HDTV with viewing and scanning lines hardly visible. All these great developments in TV engineering combined with the clarity and definition of surround sound which is available with most HDTV models mean that you will get a TV experience vastly superior to any you have had until now.

So its worthwhile going that little bit further when you choose your new HDTV TV and add a new surround sound package to complete the best picture with the best sound. After all it makes sense to get the most from your new purchase. HDTV will enhance all your TV viewing but be prepared to be even more popular when you invite others over to watch the match on your new HDTV.
