Busted burglar alarms can be quite frustrating. After all, it defeats the purpose of warning the homeowners of possible intruders. Remember that burglar alarms are electronic devices and if they send you these annoying false alarm maybe you should start to do some burglar alarm system troubleshooting. Like all other equipments troubleshooting your device should be done once on a month to make sure that your burglar alarm is in its best operating conditions.
Simple Troubleshooting
Most wireless burglar alarm device consists of interconnecting sensors, sirens and control panels so it would be better to check all this components to makes sure that all of its parts are working. False alarms are a nuisance and this is why in some states false alarm is fined by the government. Alarm system troubleshooting is done by expert professionals but home owners can also do simple troubleshooting with their burglar alarm systems.
Step 1: Sensor Check
The first step in your burglar alarm system troubleshooting is to first look into the sensors. Some sensors are very sensitive and small changes force them to send signal that gives false alarms. Vibration sensors that are usually placed in windows can be tripped if the window where these devices are placed oscillates, thermal sensors gives false alarms if the temperature of its environment suddenly changes, extra sensitive motion sensors may detect animal movements in your house and send false alarms.
Battery - If your sensors are tripped but the siren doesn’t make a sound, the first thing to do is to check if the battery is still working. If you are using a wireless burglar alarm check if the radio frequency transmitter is still working if not then you have to have an expert to fix it and if you are using hard-wired burglar alarm check for wire disconnection.
Step 2: Siren Troubleshooting
The thing to consider is when your sensors are working well but it does not produce any siren. Check if your siren is connected to the power source, if that is not the problem then your siren has lost its ability to produce sound and should be fixed by an expert.
Step 3: The Control Panel
The last thing to consider when trying to troubleshoot is the main control panel. Check if the control panel is plugged to a power source, next check if the operation buttons of your control panels still works by pressing it. If you have a problem with the control panel then you have to have it fixed by an expert. In case your burglar alarm system is faulty or defective, you can call a professional or you have to buy a new set of burglar alarm device.
Step 4: When to Call the Experts
Some alarm problems may be beyond your control. Burglar alarm system troubleshooting which are too complicated, like troubleshooting the circuitry of your equipment, should only be done by an expert if you are a particular with electronics. There are instances that you need to call your provider in case you forgot your password or the codes of your security alarm.
Remember that the main function of troubleshooting you device is to let you know if your alarm system is still working or it needs fixing or you have to buy a new one. Don’t let your faulty burglar alarm systems give you a sense of false security.
