Laptops Get Upgrades For Gamers Who Stay Mobile

by Chris Channing

PC gamers are no strangers to long hours in front of the computer, either killing time or enjoying a nice quiet evening at home. But when a PC gamer wants to go outside (should that ever happen), they run into a problem. Many of today’s laptops were not created for gamers- and therefore, won’t play many video games. So what is a gamer to do?

Laptop Options For Gamers

Gamers have a few choices when it comes to PC gaming. The latest advances in technology have enabled laptop manufacturers to pack more of a punch in a smaller area- meaning gamers can take their gaming on the road.

As far as technology goes, processors have gotten much of the attention as of late. Processors are now sporting technologies such as Duo-Core or Quad-Core technology. This technology essentially emulates several processors- meaning that multitasking can be achieved at a whole new level.

Just like processors, hard drives are famous for creating excessive heat levels. Gamers need high RPM speeds on hard drives, so that information can be accessed quicker for more demanding technology. It is uncommon to see a 7,200 RPM hard drive in laptops today, simply because they produce too much heat and can often be bulky. There are, however, exceptions- but be prepared to shell out a good deal of money for the upgrade.

When it comes to the graphics card, gamers tend to splurge on the best video card available. But as gamers will soon find out, laptops have less options in this area. This is because laptops are smaller in design, and the latest graphics cards run too hot or are too bulky to fit in a laptop’s design.

Flaws of Gaming Laptops

Battery life is the most controversial flaw for any laptop user. If a laptop uses more performance, it will thus have less battery life. This is sad for laptop gamers, who will sometimes see only an hour or two of laptop life before having to recharge. This is compared to the 10 or more hours that normal laptop users can enjoy.

Laptops are famous for the use of the touchpad instead of a mouse. But when laptop gamers try to play a game with the touchpad, they will soon realize that a mouse is usually the only way to go. USB mice can be bought, but they require that a clean and flat surface be had- which isn’t always the case.

Final Thoughts On Gaming Laptops

Mobile gaming is becoming popular in today’s culture, but the hardware and technology isn’t always as advanced as we would like it to be. Be prepared to shell out a lot more money for gaming laptops. Also take into effect that excess heat can ruin the life of a laptop- meaning you should invest in cooling pads or extra fans for best effect.
